Young Political Fashion

How cool is Malia Obama?

Strolling around Rome this morning, the 11 year-old showed off not only her support to daddy's politics, but also her immaculate sense of street-style.

Colourful Ray-Bans and CND (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament) logo t-shirt? Brilliant!

I will keep an eye on you Miss Obama, it seems to me like you are a fashion-icon in the making.

One For The Boys

I have to admit I am not as aware of the predicaments of fashion menswear as I am for the female equivalent. Possibly because changes in style and shape are less conspicuous and recurrant as in womenswear, probably thought, because I am not a man myself.

In any case recently I noticed this extraordinary male predilection for shorts this season. And, no, they are not those khaki/beige cargo shorts all wrinkles and pockets and little style.

These are knee-lenght, straight cut, all cotton, white striped shorts. These are Wimbeldon or PGA Tour watch shorts. Plaid shorts, linen shorts, seesucker shorts, chino shorts and even, yes, oh yes, school shorts. They come in all colours, in all patters and in all sorts of lenghts (from a demure just under the knee, to a daring palm above the knee).

And yet, despite my natural preference
for long trousers (even as swimsuits I tend to prefer those long surfing ones) I have to say there is something alluring, fascinating about this new trend. Most likely it is only the confident attitude and statement of the wearer, who pulls it off altogether simply by ingoring old dress conventions, trotting ahead with his Ray Bans and his Nautica plaid flat front shorts.
